How Leicester City could line up for the 2017/18 season…

The summer transfer window has been positive so far for the Foxes, securing the underrated England centre half Harry Maguire from relegated Hull City for £12m plus add ons and recently acquiring Vicente Iborra, former Sevilla captain, for just £12m.

No sales have been made by the former champions, with just Marcin Wasilewski being released from his contract and Molla Wague‘s pointless loan deal ending.

Riyad Mahrez has been expected to leave after publicly announcing his desire for a new challenge, however the Algerian and Player of the Year 2015/16 has had no interest or offers according to boss Craig Shakespeare.

Demarai Gray is another player who may be set to leave as he wasn’t given a lot of game time, particularly towards to end of last season where Mahrez was being picked despite him being out of form.

The Foxes are looking to bolster their squad further and are close to completing a deal which would see Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho move to the King Power Stadium in a £25m deal.

The 20 year old Nigerian would be linking up with fellow countrymen Wilfred Ndidi and maybe Ahmed Musa too, subject to him potentially making a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce for a reported £18m.

Another striker that Leicester are reportedly looking to bring in if the Iheanacho deals falls through is Sassuolo French man Gregoire Defrel for £15m after initial talks to bring him in January were very close.

Leicester have also been in pursuit of the highly underrated Swansea City man Gylfi Sigurdsson, but the Welsh side are making sure they can keep ahold of the Icelandic playmaker by slapping an enormous £40m price tag on him.

Other official bids that have been made by the Foxes include a rejected £10m bid for West Brom defender Jonny Evans, and more recently a £20m bid for Watford captain and Foxes nemesis Troy Deeney turned down.

With many teams successfully adopting a 3 at the back formation, including Premier League winners Chelsea and more recently Arsenal, could we see the Foxes try out this formation ahead of the new season…

Not to mention the Foxes themselves who adopted the use of 3 central defenders and wing backs during the great escape season under Pearson and Shakespeare back in 2014/15.

  • Demarai Gray should be in the starting lineup and if we do keep Riyad Mahrez, his starting place is under threat should he continue to show poor attitude.
  • Ben Chilwell should get more starts this season and push Christian Fuchs for a first team place as a wing-back in the new formation.
  • Harry Maguire is good enough to be a starting centre back, and could partner Robert Huth, Wes Morgan or Yohan Benalouane, all players who know the system well.
  • A midfield pairing of Vicente Iborra and Wilfred Ndidi would probably be our strongest midfield pairing should the work well together.
  • Jamie Vardy needs more support going forward, and if Kelechi Iheanacho was to sign, there is potential for a frightening and deadly attacking partnership.

Below are a couple of formations with line ups, however it is very difficult to fit everyone into a team with the Foxes having not sold anyone yet in the transfer window…
